Gale A. Brewer is the 27th Manhattan Borough President. She previously served on the City Council for 12 years and passed legislation guaranteeing paid sick leave for most hourly employees, compelling landlords to fix repeat violations, requiring all City data be published online, and the nation’s first law protecting domestic workers. Brewer was previously Project Manager for the NYC Nonprofits Project at CUNY’s Graduate Center and worked for the Telesis Corporation, which builds affordable housing in New York City. She also served as NYC Deputy Public Advocate, Director of Mayor Dinkins' Federal Office, and Executive Director of the Mayor's Commission on the Status of Women.
