Former MAS Director; Deputy Commissioner of Neighborhood Strategies, New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development

Daniel Hernandez is a real estate planner, developer, advisor, and project manager, with over 25 years of experience. He is the principal of the real estate advisory firm, Topology, which he founded, he is presently taking a leave of absence to serve the mayor of NYC as the Deputy Commissioner for Neighborhood Strategies at the Department of Housing Preservation and Development. He is leading the planning and housing strategies outlined in the landmark Housing New York passed in May 2015.

Before establishing his own firm, Daniel was Managing Director of the development and planning practices at Jonathan Rose Companies. Daniel’s portfolio includes a broad range of real estate project types from districts to individual sites and buildings. He has been in leadership positions throughout his career and managed all phases of project development. Daniel has worked in the for-profit, non-profit, and public sectors, and has participated in creating national policy and certification programs addressing sustainable urban development.
